Mass transfer from small spheroids suspended in a turbulent fluid

چکیده

By coupling direct numerical simulation of homogeneous isotropic turbulence with a localised solution the convection–diffusion equation, we model rate transfer solute (mass transfer) from surface small, neutrally buoyant, axisymmetric, ellipsoidal particles (spheroids) in dilute suspension within turbulent fluid at large Péclet number, $\textit {Pe}$ . We observe that, {Pe} = O(10)$ , average for prolate spheroids is larger than that spheres equivalent area, whereas oblate experience lower rate. However, as number increased, can an enhancement mass relative to near optimal aspect ratio $\lambda \approx 1/4$ Furthermore, spherical particles, Sherwood {Sh}$ scales approximately {Pe}^{0.26}$ over 1.4\times 10^{1}$ $1.4\times 10^{4}$ which below {Pe}^{1/3}$ scaling observed inertial but consistent available experimental data tracer-like particles. The discrepancy attributed diffusion-limited temporal response concentration boundary layer strain fluctuations. A simple model, quasi-steady flux captures both these phenomena and shows good quantitative agreement our simulations.

Numerical Investigation of Turbulent Mass Transfer in a 90° Bend

This paper presents a numerical study of local mass transfer coefficients in a 90° bend using the RNG version of k–e model to include the influence of curvature on the turbulent transport. Simulations were performed for flow through a 90°, 3-D bend for Reynolds numbers of 13500, 90000, and 390000, Schmidt numbers of 2.53 and 700 and curvature ratios of 1.5, 2, and 2.5. The differences betwe...

Turbulent Events and Gas-Side Mass Transfer Coefficients in a Wavy Air-Water Stratified Flow

Turbulence structure on the gas side of a wavy stratified flow was experimentally investigated in a near horizontal 18.7 cm (H) 10 cm (W) 5.5m (L) rectangular duct.By applying the Variable Interval Time Averaging (VITA) technique to the hot wire anemometer measurements frequency of occurrence of turbulent events were detected near the air-water interface. Experimental results showed that fr...

UNSTEADY CONVECTIVE DIFFUSION IN A HERSCHEL–BULKLEY FLUID IN A CONDUIT WITH INTERPHASE MASS TRANSFER

The combined effect of non-Newtonian rheology and irreversible boundary reaction on dispersion in a Herschel-Bulkley fluid through a conduit (pipe/channel) is studied by using generalized dispersion model. The study explains the development of dispersive transport following the injection of a tracer in terms of three effective transport coefficients namely exchange, convective and dispersion co...

Supercritical Fluid Extraction of β-Carotene from Crude Palm Oil Using CO2 in a Bubbler Extractor: Mass Transfer Study

In this study, the diffusivity and volumetric mass transfer coefficients for the extraction of β-carotene from crude palm oil using CO2 solvent in supercritical fluid were determined in the pressure range of 7.5-17.5 MPa and temperature range of 80-120 ºC. For this purpose, a statistical method was applied in order to minimize the number of experiments required. The volumetric ma...
